Students at Hicks Elementary haven’t skipped a beat this New Year as they are members of the Jump Club. Hicks Jump Club started at the beginning of the school year and its’ members are learning not only the fundamentals of jumping rope, but they are working on form, balance, coordination, rhythm, timing, and partner work.
Melissa Greer is Hicks PE teachers as well as the Jump Club sponsor. Jump Club is offered to third, fourth and fifth graders. There is no cost and they meet once a week for 45 minutes. Each week students work on 2 to 3 jump rope skills as well as practicing the basics.
“Our goal for this semester is to have a small group perform a routine during Jump Rope for Heart,” states Greer. “I’m really proud at the progress they have made. We all are having a great time and getting some exercise doing it!”
Jump Rope for Heart will be February 11 through the 28th at Hicks. It is an annual fundraiser for the American Heart Association.
