The St. Pius X Speech Team participated in a Speech Tournament October 13, 2007.  The team is coached by St. Pius X teacher Ms. Stacy Melin.The tournament was  held at St. Paul School in Richardson.  School students district wide competed for top awards.  Ms. Melin is very proud of her students and stated  "Most of my contestants were rookies, and they only had a few practices prior to the tournament due to all of the activities...".   The seasoned veterans and "rookies" did well in competition.  Results from the competition included  Humorous Interpretation; Matthew Babineaux - Superior (1st. place), Eric Ramon - Superior (1st. place), Emily Lee Superior (1st. place), Frances Opara - Good (3rd. place).  Other results were TV Commercial; Katie Ring, Katie Sherman and Sarina Natera - Superior (1st. place).  Preston Fisher placed Excellent (2nd. place)  in Dramatic Interpretation and the team of Elizabeth  Horak and Susan Mammen  placed Superior (1st. place) in Duet Acting.  We have some very promising orators and thespians it seems.  The next tournament is scheduled for December 1, 2007.  The team wishes to thank Ms. Cathy Ramon, school parent, who assisted in the tournament as well as the staff at St. Pius who encourage them every day.
