One element of the Scout Law is, "A Scout is Helpful." Thirteen scouts and twelve adults from Boy Scout Troop 1001 of Richardson, Texas gathered on Saturday, February 20, 2010 to live out this portion of the Law. Together with scouts all over the Dallas area, they participated in the annual event, Scouting For Food. This BSA event is the largest single-day food collection in Dallas, and is one of the largest in the nation. Every year in February, Scouts in the Circle 10 Council go door-to-door collecting canned food to help the hungry. The canned foods are donated to food pantries located in the Circle 10 Council area.
Troop 1001 scouts collected 1,075 cans of food and $50.00 cash which was all donated to the North Texas Food Bank Richardson Branch. First year scout, Clint Kruse of Richardson, Texas said, "It is a good feeling to know that we are helping feed the hungry in our neighborhood. It is also a lot of fun to be out with my friends doing something good for someone else."
After collecting food, the scouts, leaders, and volunteers were treated to lunch at Macaroni Grill in Addison, Texas.
Troop 1001 meets at Trinity Bible Church located at 400 W. Campbell Road in Richardson, Texas. For more information about Troop 1001, please visit www.troop1001.org.
