0 Ratings / 0 Comments

Caldwell Elementary School Principal, Chris Clark, is focusing on raising the reading level of his students. Mr. Clark has partnered with the Kiwanis Terrific Kids program to create enthusiasm among the students. The overall goal of the program is get each student to improve his or her reading efficiency and level.

The program was developed during the summer and was implemented at the beginning of the school year. Each student works with his or her teacher and sets their individual nine-week reading goal. At the end of the nine-week period, all students reaching their goal receive a premium from a local merchant and the class of each grade level with the highest percent of achievement receives a party sponsored by the McKinney Kiwanis Club. The teacher of the class with the highest percent of achievement in the school is given a gift card from Barnes & Nobles.

Dairy Queen provided the free gift given to each student for the first nine-week period and The McKinney Kiwanis Club provided the parties for each grade level and the gift card for Ms.Farlow.

The classes with the highest percentage of achievement were:

Ms. Angel (Kindergarten), Ms. Robinson (1stGrade), Ms. Jaime (2nd Grade),

Ms. Farlow (3rdGrade), Ms. Price (4th Grade) and Ms. Turner (5th Grade).

Ms. Farlow’s 3rdgrade class had the highest achievement level of the school for the first nine-week period.
