150-member K - 6 choirs perform musical drama
“Let’s Rock,” a musical drama directed by Sachse resident Angela Irby, worship associate at The Heights Baptist Church, and drama director Patrick Williams of Murphy, followed a group of talented young people in their quest to be discovered.
While the mission was to clean up a park after a flood, the characters were more interested in being discovered by Christian rock star Max, played by Abby Williams of Murphy. Kristen Kelly (Garland) played vocalist “Jazz, ” Sam Alvey (Richardson) guitarist “Sam,” Jack Spitaletto (Sachse) drummer “Charlie,” and Sunnyvale resident Nathan Blackley played “Worthington.”
“This program helped our kids learn how to make a difference in their community, which goes along with our church's goal of investing outside the church,” said Mrs. Irby.
Other key cast members included Joshua Fowler (Plano), Jessica Howard (Plano), Landrie McCarter (Garland), Katie McMillan (Garland), Lindsay Spitaletto (Sachse) and Maddie Wonders (Allen). The cast was backed by a 150-member choir, composed of children from kindergarten through sixth grade.
“The greatest reward for me is seeing the very shy child coming out of their shell,” said Irby, “and really having fun!”
The Heights Worship Quest choirs will sing Christmas carols in area retirement homes on December 9, and will present their Christmas program December 17 at the church.
Next spring, Worship Quest will be learning a baseball themed musical called "Sermon on the Mound," which will include an opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Frisco Roughrider's baseball game in April.
Worship Quest choirs meet every Wednesday evening from 6 – 7:00 p.m. in the Children’s Building at The Heights, 201 W. Renner Road at US-75. More information is at www.theheights.org.
