Plano dancers, Naomi Shapira, McKenna Karnes, Audrey Clark, Cosette Goldstein and Camille Goldstein, will be starring in the upcoming production of The Nutcracker. Celebrating their 25th year of building Classical Foundations for Life®, and serving as the preeminent pre-professional ballet company in North Texas, Chamberlain Performing Arts’ promises to provide a spectacular presentation of The Nutcracker.
This season’s production features principal dancers Wendy Whelan and Philip Neal of New York City Ballet who will be performing the Grand Pas de Deux as choreographed by George Balanchine. The ballet will also feature more than 200 young dancers from Chamberlain Performing Arts company as well as students from Chamberlain School of Performing Arts. These local dancers will be performing for more than 5,000 patrons.
Ms. Shapira, 15, Ms. Karnes, 14, and Ms. Clark, 14 attend Shepton High School and spend their evenings rehearsing and perfecting their roles for their upcoming performance in The Nutcracker. Ms. Shapira will be performing the Lead Marzipan role as well as a Rose in the Waltz of the Flowers and a corps member in Snow. She has been dancing since age 5 and has been a part of Chamberlain’s Senior Company for 3 years. Ms. Shapira’s achievements include the opportunity to attend School of American Ballet’s intensive Summer Workshop as well as the privilege to be invited for their winter program. Along with this she aspires to eventually become a professional ballet dancer, and enjoys the ability to perform in a variety of roles.
Ms. Karnes will be presented as a Soloist while performing the Ballerina Doll in the opening party scene. Ms. Karnes will also be performing alongside Ms. Shapira as a corps member in Marzipan, as well as Snow and Waltz of the Flowers. She is a part of the Sr. Company and has been with Chamberlain Performing Arts for 11 years. During 2009, she attended School of American Ballet’s Summer Workshop. In the future, she hopes to attend SMU’s Arts, Dance Division and become a professional dancer soon after college. McKenna takes great joy in making people happy and performing the benefit performance of The Nutcracker.
Ms. Clark will also be presented as a soloist while performing the Ballerina Doll and will dance in Marzipan and Waltz of the Flowers as a corps member. This is her 4th year at Chamberlain Performing Arts and her 2nd year as a Sr. Company member. Ms. Clark attended the School of American Ballet Workshop in the summer of 2009 and would love to become a professional ballerina. Her interests include photography, marine biology, church, traveling, music and writing. She most enjoys the feeling of accomplishment she gets after mastering a new role in The Nutcracker.
The leading role of Clara, will be performed by Plano dancers Cosette Goldstein and Camille Goldstein. These twin sisters, 15, are full of talent and experience that will be sure to shine on stage throughout this season’s anticipated performance. Both have been training with Chamberlain Performing Arts for the past 10 years. Along with their dedication to the performing arts, these girls have succeeded in the acting and media community. When the Goldsteins are not at home in Plano they can be found performing voiceovers on Radio Disney here in Dallas, Texas and in Los Angeles, California acting in shows such as, Nickelodeon’s TV movie Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh.
