We asked you last week to share stories about the military people in your life, and you did.

You told us about your fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, friends and neighbors.

Like Kathy Smith’s father, Col. Charles W. Mays, a veteran of World War I, World War II and the Korean War who was also the first marshal of the court at the war-crimes trials in Nuremberg and received a medal directly from Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

Or Diane Murphy’s son, Marine Cpl. Travis K. Lindsey, who did his duty on Sept. 11, 2001, as a junior ROTC cadet in Mesquite, and again while serving in Iraq.

And Carmen Tyminski of Rockwall, wife of 34 years to Frank Tyminski, a 20-year Army veteran. (“She’s the hero, not me,” Frank says of the faith and dedication that Carmen displayed amid deployments across several continents.)

Readers posted these stories on our Web site, and you can find links to them and many more at our Faces of the Military blog that we’ve set up to help acknowledge the debt every American owes to those who have served or are serving in our armed forces.

In our Veterans Day print edition today, neighborsgo staffers salute those who served the country by sharing some of their stories with you.

Okinawa, the Battle of the Bulge, Pork Chop Hill, Khe Sanh, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom – the names might be familiar from the history books or recent headlines. And the experiences of veterans in these campaigns might be similar.

But the stories are different, because each individual is different.

Like Tony Gannarelli’'s account of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

And Ed Postel’s memories of military training with Hollywood legends Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart.

Or Cheryl Rardin’s story about being the proud mom of two Marines, James and Matthew, former Eagle Scouts who will be tomorrow’s veterans.

You can read more about the origins of our Faces of the Military feature on our blog, but we need you to help us sustain it as a weekly part of our newspaper.

How? By sharing your stories and photos about the military people in your life.

We want to read your words about and see your images of all the brave men and women who are serving their country, accomplishing great things and inspiring others.

If you’re a group in the area that serves veterans, active-duty troops or their families, we want to hear about your efforts. Airport greetings, classroom visits, military appointments and accomplishments – you name it. If it has a connection to the communities we serve, we want to hear about it.

By sharing your military-related stories and photos with us today on neighborsgo.com, we will have the opportunity to share them with our readers in upcoming print editions.

With your help, we can remind everyone that every day – not just Veterans Day – is a good day to acknowledge and thank members of our military services, past and present.
