Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the US and the top consumer fraud complaint at the Federal Trade Commission. More than 8 million Americans have their identities stolen each year.
Consumer Action agencies, the Better Business Bureau, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and local Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) organizations are participating in events to bring awareness of this growing problem to their communities. During this week, October 18 through October 24, events are taking place all across America. To find an event in your area, visit www.ProtectYourIDNow.org. This website also provides identity theft prevention tips, videos, and interactive quiz and resources for those who have become victims of identity theft.
