The Mystery of Vampires
Dr. Nancy Remp Smith will offer a free lecture to the public on “The Mystery of Vampires,” drawn from her extensive research on the subject, on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7 PM in the Dulaney Room of the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library. She will discuss the development of the vampire archetype and how it came to be popular, the romance and folklore of vampires, scientific investigations into their reality, and the literature of vampires. She’ll also speak about the popularity of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series as well as the depiction of vampires in Japanese Manga. Nancy Remp Smith holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Southern Methodist University and has taught World Religions, History of Religions, Ethics, and Contemporary Religious Problems at BrookhavenCollege and the Collin County Community College District. An entertaining and engaging speaker, she has also lectured at area churches and cultural organizations, including recent talks at McKinney Public Library on the culture and religion of the Vikings, and on the religion and mythology of ancient Egypt.
