Fall is near. Not only does the calendar tell me so, but school is back in session, Labor Day just passed and last week I felt a cool breeze. My favorite part of fall is daylight savings – because I get an extra hour of sleep.
Just joking.
Actually I enjoy the trees changing colors, Thanksgiving and an escape from the August heat.
But summer is not quite over, and here’s what some of you have been doing in your last months of Texas heat.
The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson recently spent a Sunday volunteering in the community. “We wanted to make a statement that we are the church, and are not just attending church,” said Richard Covington. Read more about what the HeightsBaptistChurch did by clicking on “Church members called to Go and Be."
The Lake Highlands High School Highlandettes hosted its annual garage sale and car wash to raise money for the drill team. I remember waiting in line to get a car wash from my ’Dette friends when I went to LHHS, it was always a fun community event.
Speaking of school, high schoolers and parents be careful driving to school because there’s a new law: no talking on the phone while driving in a school zone.
Luckily, the school zone lights don’t flash when you’re on your way to a football game.
HS GameTime is back this week with more coverage of your schools.
Plano East Senior High recently held a pre-game tribute for teammate Zachary Schrah who collapsed at practice last April and died of cardiac arrest. Read more about the tribute by clicking “Plano East Panthers Honor Zachary Schrah.”
LakeHighlandsHigh School varsity volleyball team will host a pink-out game tomorrow to raise cancer awareness and to support fellow LH volleyball player, Emily Obenhaus, who has melanoma. Look coverage of the game in next week’s neighborsgo.
The Richardson Chamber of Commerce also is holding a tribute, “Salute to First Responders” today to commemorate the attacks of Sept. 11 that happened eight years ago tomorrow.
What did you and your neighbors do for Labor Day, and are you doing anything in memory of Sept. 11 tomorrow, let the community know by posting on neighborsgo.com.
