Blanket Bonanza!
“The Project Linus booth at the Plano Quilt Show was a huge hit,” according to TheresaCostin, Chapter Coordinator for the Collin/Dallas/Grayson CountyProject Linus chapter. According to Costin, “150 volunteers committed to making blankets for our chapter and we are thrilled!” Project Linus is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to comforting kids with security blankets for critically ill and traumatized children. Since it’s inception in November 2004 the chapter has distributed over 5,000 blankets to comfort children. “Currently over 200 blankets per month are delivered to area hospitals and other organizations. DorisBrown, Assistant Chapter Coordinator said, “With more Blanketeers (volunteers) we can serve even more children and give them that extra hug and warmth.”Blankets are new handmade security blankets that are sewn, quilted, knitted or crocheted. They must be washable and in kid friendly colors and/or patterns. Once these blankets are given to the children, most of them never put them down because they provide so much comfort and security for them in a life that has been turned upside-down by illness or accident.Anyone interested in lending a hand in the blanket making is invited to attend the August 29 Make A Blanket Day being held at the First United Methodist Church at 315 N. Church Street, McKinney, TX between 9 AM and 4 PM. All donations will also be welcome! For more information about Project Linus please visit www.PLDallas.org
