Irving, TX                              Reported by:  Elsie Kroussakis

The members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Irving were out early Saturday morning to decorate their entry for the Irving Parade, applying banners, flags, ribbons and red, white & blue tissue flowers over the flatbed trailer and pick up truck of Elder, Tom Jenkins.

Following the theme of "The Spirit of 76" Evangelism Chairperson, Ed Halter located a set of the famous print of that name, depicting two Revolutionary Drummers and a Fife player along with a pair of authentic looking uniforms.

Financial Secretary, Clarence Stieg and his granddaughter, Emily rounded out the trio that tolerated the heat of the 103 degree day portraying the tableau on the back of the pick up.

Pastor Brad Carroll and his wife Sharon joined several church members as "drummers" on the flatbed trailer filled with hay bales for them to sit on.  Two large speakers blared out patriotic Fife and Drum selections as the entry traveled the 2 mile parade route.

The crowds greeted the entry with salutes and waves as it passed, some veterans even took off their hats.  2nd Avenue had large numbers of people of all ages, races and modes of dress.  Many persons were almost as decorated as the Parade Entrants.

Good Shepherd has entered this Irving Parade for several years, even winning a few times, they believe in supporting their community.  This year they chose to promote their Music Ministry Patriotic Concert on July 5th and also the VBS Program "Rome - Paul and the Underground Church" which starts 7/8 and continues each Wednesday evening thru August 5th.
