Plano East hosted a ceremony for Kayleigh VanHecke Monday night May 18th for her to be presented with her Army ROTC scholarship totaling over $126,000.00 to attend the University of Dallas. Channel 11 showed up and interviewed her and put her clip on the news at 10pm and again the following morning.
Kayleigh will be going one day a week to the University of Texas Arlington to attend her Military Science and ROTC classes. She has been working diligently with LTC Bernard Aikens at Plano East to get prepared for her APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) which is the final qualification for her scholarship. She is up to 50 sit-ups in 2 mins, 45 push-ups in 2 mins and a 2 mile run in about 18 mins which all puts her above where she needs to be to pass/qualify.
Kayleigh has also been awarded another $10,000.00 per year for 4 years in grants and scholarships from the University of Dallas. This brings her total scholarship/grant awards to over 160K. Kayleigh will be majoring in English, obtaining a teaching certificate at the University of Dallas. She will also be playing softball for Coach Hanson and the University of Dallas Crusaders We are extremely proud of Kayleigh and very relieved that she has been blessed with this opportunity to be accepted to and attend her first choice university without financial burdens.
