Plano Symphony Orchestra Elects 2009-2010 Board

The Plano Symphony Orchestra Association elected new officers and board members at its annual dinner meeting at Gleneagles Country Club on June 7, 2009. The new board officers are Kevin Cain, President, Keith Stephens, Secretary, and Mirna Lynch, Treasurer. The Plano Symphony Board elected five new members: Mellie Baggett, Tammy Miller, Ron Ort, Denise Pollis, and Pat Saari. Betty Muns was also elected to a new term as a board member and Sherman Anderson was re-elected to a second, three year term. The outgoing Board President, Claudia Hull, recognized Bob Bagget and Tom Freas for their many years of service on the Plano Symphony Board of Directors.  Both are past presidents of the Board.

Board members continuing their service for the 2009-2010 season include: Joel Crouch, Sharon DeFalco, Claudia Hull, Mary Jones, Renee King, Joe Layne, Victor Lee, Evelyn Molina, Lonnie Morris, Mike Nettleton, Linda Pardue, Wanda Parker, Christina Ryan, Luci Sampler, Jack Schulik, David Schulz, Sy Shahid, Bill Tempest, Carolyn Tolley, Sherrie Varrichio, Curtis Wade, and Feng Yang.

A highlight of the evening was a program by Plano Symphony Cellist, Oliver Schlaffer. He demonstrated, for the audience, a sample of his interactive presentation given to fourth graders who participate in the Symphony education program offered to area school districts. He performed “The Swan” by composer Saint-Saens and was accompanied by Pianist Yumiko Endo Schlaffer.

The Plano Symphony Guild met prior to the Board meeting to elect new officers and committee members. Carolyn Tolley, Guild President, led the discussion and election of committee chairmen.

The Plano Symphony Orchestra, celebrating its 27th season, is known for exceptional orchestral performances in a friendly and welcoming environment. The eight concert subscription series include masterwork classics, holiday pops, Broadway music and presentations of extraordinary guest artists that create unique concert experiences. In addition to the subscription series at the beautiful EisemanCenter for Performing Arts and St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Plano Symphony’s annual July 4 Patriotic Pops concert has become a community tradition. Plano Symphony is also recognized for its educational programming which includes a prestigious young artist competition, a Family Symphony Sunday Series of five concerts, an Instrument Petting Zoo, and the Fourth Grade Symphony Education Program, with musician visits and concerts, serving more than 8,000 children annually.
