Leadership Plano names Lisa Sams Executive Director
Plano, Texas, June 11, 2009—The Plano Chamber of Commerce recently named Lisa Sams as the new Leadership Plano executive director. Sams brings more than twenty years of experience in the areas of communications, philanthropy, team building and community initiatives. “With this opportunity, I have realized a dream that took seed while I was in Leadership Plano eight years ago,” said Sams.
Leadership Plano began in 1983 and is sponsored by the Plano Chamber of Commerce as a community leadership development program. Spanning nine months from September through May, Leadership Plano is designed to increase individual and community leadership skills. The beginning retreat, a two-day orientation weekend in September, focuses on individual leadership styles and techniques. Starting in October and ending in May, the class then spends one day a month examining specific aspects of the community such as education, area government, local business and economic development, health and human services, the criminal justice system, and the arts.
Sams serves as the director of strategic planning, marketing and events for Need Him Ministries, a Christian evangelical organization in Dallas. She is also a contributing writer/editor for Plano Profile magazine and is often asked to serve as a guest speaker or meeting facilitator for churches, public schools and organizations like Ernst & Young, BaylorRegionalMedicalCenter at Plano and Junior League of Plano. Prior experience includes community relations and church ministry.
“We are pleased to have found a leader who possesses a unique combination of talents, is a gifted communicator and who will be able to provide strong strategic vision as Leadership Plano continues on its path of growth and development,” said Brad Shanklin, Plano Chamber of Commerce president.
“As a long-time resident of Plano, I have a passion for our city and those who have chosen it as their home,” said Sams. “As a graduate of Leadership Plano, I know that this program builds leadership capacity and instills a sense of belonging. I have benefited from many relationships forged through Leadership Plano and I hope to see our program continue to flourish as I carry the traditions forward and offer new ideas for growth.”
Leadership Plano is currently accepting applications for its next class and Sams is excited about ushering in the group of professionals who will make up Class 27. “We are narrowing in on the June 15 application deadline and I encourage those interested to get their submissions completed. Please consider participating in this outstanding program that promises to enrich your professional skills, build lasting friendships and increase your involvement within our community,” she invites.
