White Rock United Methodist Church has been around for 70 years, and it doesn’t plan to go away anytime soon.
In an effort to stay with the times, WRUMC has made a few changes since senior pastor Rev. George Fisk joined the church seven years ago.
“We do a collage of music,” Fisk said.
Sunday worship now has a full band with a five-string banjo, pipe organ, guitar, drums, a full choir and singing of a mix of both traditional and contemporary hymns.
“We hope our younger folks will be connected with the traditions of the church and our older ones are learning new music,” Fisk said.
Fisk attaches a theme to each sermon and touches on relatable everyday issues using movie clips, TV shows and more. He even did a series using the restoration of cars as a metaphor for the Christian life.
WRUMC strives to bridge the generation gap by introducing new ways to worship.
“I think we’re one of the best kept secrets in the whole area,” he said “It is difficult to come here and not feel the warmth.”
White Rock UMC has Sunday school for children and youth at 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10:50 a.m. every Sunday.
The church also holds various youth activities throughout the week including UMYF on Sunday nights, disciple class on Mondays and Pure Ministry on Wednesday nights.
