John’s Café has been serving “just good food” since 1972, and the key to its success doesn’t come from the kitchen, but from those sitting at the tables.

“It’s not because we are here or that we are consistent” said Mike Niotis, son-in-law of owner John Spyropulous. “It’s because the people in the neighborhood make it that way. We would be zero without them.”

Niotis now helps run the business with his wife, Georgia, who is Spyropulous’ daughter. Many customers have been coming here for more than 30 years, bringing in three generations of families. Spyropulous and his customers have become very close over the years, and they sometimes help serve everyone when the staff is busy. Spyropulous has introduced couples to one another in his restaurant and has seen people get married. He says it has happened many times.

John’s pancakes are a favorite on the breakfast menu. For lunch, the euros and the roast beef are best-sellers. There also is a special everyday; $5.65 for breakfast, and $6.45 for lunch.  But quality food at a good value isn’t the only reason John’s has such loyal customers.

“The neatest part about John is when people come in, he knows everybody’s name, and he can pick up a conversation that was left off five to 10 years ago like a day didn’t pass,” Niotis said. “…We get to bring our living room here.”
