Plano Balloon Festival was chosen by our readers for this year’s Neighbors Choice award as “Best Local Event” for the neighborsgo editions covering Plano, Murphy and Far North Dallas.
We invited Jo Via, executive director of the festival, to tell us more about the annual event.
- Why do you think the Plano Balloon Festival was named a Neighbors Choice award winner by our readers?
We have families that have been attending this event for 29 years, and now they are coming with their families – it has become multigenerational. The uniqueness of seeing colorful hot-air balloons gracefully float over Plano skies brings joy to all ages.
- What do you think this award says about the festival?
It provides validation for the thousands of volunteer hours that more than 3,300 volunteers contribute to this event. It also reinforces the importance of providing an affordable, family oriented festival.
- What are some things you can tell us about the upcoming Plano Balloon Festival?
We will be celebrating 30 years of ballooning in Plano. We anticipate a very special shape that will make a first time appearance at our event. Attendees will be wowed by our spectacular fireworks Saturday night and great concerts Friday and Saturday evening. Our glow and candlestick burn are awesome sights.
- What is the most important thing (or two) for our readers to know about the festival?
With the festival’s focus on offering nonprofits the opportunity to generate revenue and create awareness about their local community organization, we have a wining combination for a positive experience for those that attend this festival.
