Poor Richard’s Café was chosen by our readers in West Plano and Plano/Murphy as the Neighbors Choice award winner for both “Best Home Cooking” and “Best Breakfast.”
We invited owner Richard Butterly to tell us more about the restaurant.
- What is your reaction to being chosen – are you surprised?
People tell us what a great job we are doing, but it is nice when a newspaper finally finds out what our customers have known for years.- What do you think this award says about your business?
The award says that our business performs well day in and day out. We love being busy because we shine when are at our busiest. New customers are surprised at how fast they are seated in 10 to 15 minutes even though we may have a line out the door.- Do you have a good relationship with the regulars at your restaurant, and if so, tell us about one or two of your experiences with them.
Many of our “kids” who came in with their parents are now coming in with their spouse and children. After all these years, the best feeling to me is knowing that the second generation of families still love our restaurant, staff and food.- What would you say to others who might aspire to be a Neighbors Choice award winner next year?
Listen to your customers. Show them that you care. You are not just there to make money, but develop a repeat business for sustainability.
