Levine eighth-graders collect, distribute more than $20,000 to charities

0 Ratings / 0 Comments
On June 3, the Ann and Nate Levine Academy Class of 2009 presented checks totaling $20,750 from its philanthropic fund, IMPACT (Intelligent Minds Protecting All Communities Today), to twelve notable charities. This class carried on the tradition, which began with the Class of 2000, of giving back to the community. The program, which begins in sixth grade, was established by the students at LevineAcademy to redirect money or gifts they would otherwise receive for their bar or bat mitzvah to their class’ charitable fund.  Each class creates its own fund, forming a Board of Directors and writing a mission statement. The students visit local philanthropies, hosts community speakers and selects the non-profit organizations to which they contribute. To date, students at LevineAcademy have raised and distributed over $120,000 to local, national and international charities.  This year, the recipients of the IMPACT Fund were:

•$2,000 to the VogelAlcoveCenter for the Homeless

•$2,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of North Texas

•$1,500 to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas

•$2,000 to Operation Kindness

•$2,000 to Jonathan’s Place

•$2,000 to Jewish Family Service

•$2,000 to Genesis Women’s Shelter

•$2,250 to Family Gateway

•$1,000 to Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship

•$1,000 to Chai House

•$2,000 to Ann and NateLevineAcademy
