Students Give Back to Community
On Wednesday, June 3, social service agencies in Dallas and Plano received much needed help from over 100 Ann and NateLevineAcademy middle school students. For the past four years, the students have taken part in Mitzvah Madness, a day devoted to doing mitzvot, or good deeds, in our community. This year the students spent the morning volunteering at Austin Street Shelter, the Legacy of Willow Bend, Vogel Alcove, Captain Hope’s Kids, Geniza Burial, Hug International, Equest and the Dallas Humane Society. Upon their return to the Academy, the middle schoolers continued their mitzvah activities well into the afternoon. They made sandwiches for Austin Street Shelter, made pet beds for an animal shelter, packaged school supplies for Bea’s Kids, made surprise boxes of goodies for Captain Hope’s Kids, wrote “Save Darfur” letters to our elected officials, made cards for soldiers serving in Iraq and for families living under the constant threat of bombing in Sderot, Israel, and worked on a project dedicated to saving the environment. Mitzvah Madness is just one of the many community service projects in which students at LevineAcademy plan and participate.
