University Park artist Susan Johnson has been creating unique hand-crafted Gift Cards for the UP Public Library.  Each card is individually made, first the bow, then patterned paper to create a box.  “I do want the cards to be high quality materials,” said Susan recently at the library.  “That’s what makes it a unique gift.”  If you want to honor someone with a special handmade gift, drop by the Library to choose from the Gift Card samples on a display board at the check-out desk. 

Susan is primarily a painter, but has recently moved into some ceramics as well, taking classes at Brookhaven College.  Through a partnership with Brookhaven and Rise Salon de Souffle Restaurant, Susan’s sugar bowls and containers for cream and sauces can be seen at Rise Restaurant in Inwood Village.

Her UPPL Gift Cards come in multiple colorful styles perfect for Valentine gifts, Memorials, Birthdays or any occasion.  Each card purchased at the UP Public Library represents a lasting gift to your community.  The cards are $15 each, 4 for $50, or 10 for $100.

Mark your calendars for several upcoming events at the UP Public Library.  On Monday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. the public is invited to join the HP Parents Book Club at the Library to discuss the work of U.S. Poet Laureate, Billy Collins.  The meeting will be led by Fred Damiano, HP High School English teacher.

On Thursday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m. the UPPL will present a Valentine Story Time, complete with crafts and refreshments.  Children of all ages are invited.  And don’t forget weekly Preschool Story Time on Thursdays at 10:45.  We hope to see you at the library.  Pick up some Gift Cards while you’re there!

The UPPL is located in the Chase Bank Building in Snider Plaza, 6517 Hillcrest, Suite 110.  The Library is open Tues. and Thurs. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  On Wed., Fri., and Sat. the hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  The Library is closed Sunday and Monday.  Call 214-363-9095 for more information.
