A group of Flower Mound residents met at the beginning of 2008 and started its first bass fishing club. There were other clubs in the area but not in Flower Mound.
The first tournament was in January at Lake Lewisville on a morning when it was 19 degrees, and some of the anglers actually caught a few fish. According to the president, Marty Glenn, “We had a great time and the club became well established.”
Marty said, “We knew that if we could have a good tournament in that kind of weather, we would have nothing but blue skies from then on.”
Marty was apparently right. During the first year, the club held ten tournaments in much more suitable weather than the first one. The membership rose from 14 to 28 during that first year.
The Flower Mound Bass Club is open to new members for 2009. Marty explained that the club fishes lakes usually within a 100 mile radius of Flower Mound in order to keep the cost of travel to a minimum.
Boaters and non-boaters are welcome. The non-boaters are paired with the boaters and are expected to help with the travel expenses. That works out well for them both.
The club’s first tournament of 2009 is in February. Information and the complete schedule can be found at the club’s website www.flowermoundbassclub.com.
The monthly meetings are at 7 PM on the first Tuesday of each month at Tierney's Cafe and Tavern 208 E. Main Street in Lewisville. Anyone interested can contact any officer listed on the website or just show up at the meeting. Those interested can also call Rusty Robbins at 972-355-1664 for additional information. He is retired and loves to talk fishing.
