Lancaster Lights & Tour of Homes

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Lancaster.  On Thanksgiving night, "Lancaster Lights" once again sprang to life with the illumination of holiday displays in Heritage Park, on the Historic Town Square, and at the City complex on Dallas Avenue (home of the Recreation Center, Veterans Memorial Library, Lancaster Life Center, and the Public Safety Building now under construction).

Holiday festivities will really get underway this Friday, December 5th, with a Preview Party at Creekwood Estates for the 4th Annual Tour of Homes. Guests will begin the evening mingling with friends and sampling holiday hors d’oeuvres, and will then be treated to a tour of four distinctive Lancaster homes. The final stop of the evening will feature a dessert coffee bar at a fully restored 1929 Tudor home on Dallas Avenue. Tickets for the Preview Party cost $35 per person, and may be purchased at Hardscrabble Antiques on Lancaster’s Historic Town Square. Only 100 tickets are available, so don’t delay!

On Saturday, December 6th, the Tour of Homes will feature two homes on Dallas Avenue, plus two in Creekwood Estates. These homes will be open from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM and may be toured in any order. Tickets cost $15 per person and are on sale at Hardscrabble Antiques. Proceeds of the Tour of Homes benefit the Heritage Park Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the illumination and beautification of Lancaster’s public spaces. A list of all homes featured in the tour is available at www.LancasterLights.org.

Saturday, December 6th is also the date for the Lancaster Historical Society’s annual Christmas Open House at the Historic MKT Train Depot. Doors will open at 5:00 PM, and refreshments will be served. At approximately 6:00 PM, vocalists from First Baptist Church will entertain guests with a selection of Christmas carols. This Open House is free and open to the public. Both the Train Depot and the adjacent Rose Garden have been decorated for “Lancaster Lights” thanks in large part to a grant from TXU Energy, which funded the purchase of new energy-efficient LED lights. The Depot is located on Pecan Street, just east of Centre Avenue, near the LISD Administration building and the Lions Den. The Historic MKT Depot was built in 1888 and served as an important stop on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas line from Dallas to the Gulf Coast.

Christmas in Olde Towne Lancaster will feature special events every week-end through Christmas. For details, go to www.VisitLancaster.org.
