Shelton Grandparents’ Day Always a Hit
Shelton School hosted its annual Grandparents’ Day on November 25. Always a popular event for students, the day is scheduled prior to the long Thanksgiving holiday, when many visiting grandparents from out of town can share in the festivities. Over 900 guests were in attendance this year.Shelton Ambassadors greeted grandparents upon arrival. Next grandparents were introduced to representatives from various school clubs and organizations as they entered The Commons. Shelton’s Thundering Herd band performed as guests enjoyed a Continental breakfast. The morning entertainment featured talented Shelton students who sang, danced, juggled, and played musical instruments. Said Executive Director Joyce Pickering, “We are amazed at how far some of our grandparents have traveled. This year we had guests from the United Kingdom, South Africa, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Iowa. This is my favorite day of the school year.”
Grandparents spent time in mini-school, meeting teachers and learning firsthand about the studies and activities of their grandchildren. Highlights included presentations on classroom SmartBoards, readings by students, and tours of media libraries.Shelton’s Parents’ Association coordinated the special day along with Shelton administration. Co-chairs for 2008-09 were Sara Agritelley, Rhonda Kehlbeck and Ruth Mitchell.
