A Veteran’s Day ceremony at Heritage Christian Academy held on Tuesday was a deeply meaningful tribute to and reminder of the many sacrifices made by the US Veterans to preserve the freedom our country enjoys. The program commenced with the posting of Colors and pledge by elementary students and the National Anthem led by the High School Choir.
HCA was honored to have a very special guest speaker, Captain Scott O’Grady, whose F-16 was shot down over Bosnia in Serb held territory in 1995. He told his story of evading capture for six days before he was rescued by US marines. He talked about how important his personal faith and his family were to him during those six days. "He is a living example of the dedication to faith and country to our HCA students" said Headmaster, Dr. Ron Taylor.
Special Guests included Mayor Bill Cecil, a 39 year veteran of the United States Air Force and Mayor Pro-Tem Cliff Sevier, a 30 year veteran of the United States Army.
Dr. Taylor, HCA Headmaster and Army Veteran, presented US flags which were flown over the White House to attending World War II and Vietnam vets. The flags were courtesy of Congressman Ralph Hall.
Veterans from each branch of the Armed Services, Police Officers and Firefighters were introduced and presented red Carnations by members of HCA Scream Team and Dazzlers. HCA’s 3rd -6th grade Choir honored the Veterans with the songs “Oh How I Love America,” "Do You Recall September,” and “Thank a Vet.”
The program ended with “God Bless America” led by the HCA Praise Team, followed by prayer and a moment of silence for those who have sacrifices their lives for our country and for those who are currently serving. "HCA was blessed to be a part of remembering and honoring those who have served and are currently serving our country," says Taylor.
