Connemara Conservancy, a nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving and protecting open space and natural beauty in north central Texas, has announced its fall event series at the Connemara Meadow Preserve. Featured events include nature tours, bird watching and workshops for families and children in the 72-acre land preservation.
“We had an overwhelming response to the spring and summer events at Connemara's Meadow Preserve," said Michelle Schneider, program manager of the Connemara Meadow Preserve. "So this fall we're offering an even wider array of topics for guests, including families and children. It's obvious North Texas residents care about the preservation of this land, and support the broader initiatives to protect our remaining acres of open space and natural habitats."
The full schedule includes:
Saturday, Oct. 18, 6:30 p.m.: Family Nature Club – Nature After Dark Introduce your children to the wonders of nature. Listen and try to identify night sounds, see the night sky, and possibly hear owls and other night prowlers.
Saturday, Nov. 1, 8 a.m.: Bird Walk with Gailon Brehm and Rodney Thomas Look for and learn about birds that make the Meadow Preserve their home permanently or while migrating. Bring binoculars and field guides if possible.
Sunday, Nov. 2, 2 p.m.: Watersheds and Wetlands with RJ Taylor Join professional wetland scientist RJ Taylor and explore streams, ponds and forested areas in and around the Meadow Preserve that play a vita role for our watershed. This event is predominantly for adults and teens.
Saturday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m.: Fall Foliage with Jim Varnum Join Jim Varnum on a walk to discover the changing leaves and fall color found in the Meadow Preserve.
Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m.: Family Nature Club – Connecting Children with Nature Introduce your children to the wonders of nature. Take a short stroll, sit a bit, and experience all that’s alive in the meadow. Bring a blanket to share.Saturday Nov. 22, 9 a.m.: Habitat Walk with Rich Jaynes Join Rich Jaynes to explore and understand the four habitat areas of the Meadow Preserve and what is being done to restore native habitat.
Sunday, Dec. 7, 8 a.m.: Bird Walk with Rodney Thomas Look for and learn about birds that make the Meadow Preserve their home permanently or while migrating. Bring binoculars and field guides if possible.
Sunday, Dec. 14, 1 p.m.: Workshop – Nature Journaling with Kirk Evans Learn how to keep a nature journal throughout the seasons. Kirk Evans will guide participants through the techniques of observation and field sketching. Bring a blank journal and writing tools. This event is for adults and teens.
