On October 2, 2008, the City of DeSoto PARD and the DeSoto Eagles youth football organization were the proud sponsors of the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick local competition for boys and girls ages 8-15 at West Middle School. The PP&K is free for participants and to its organizers to host a local competition. With more than four million boys and girls from around the country taking part in the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition every year from July through January, it is one of the largest youth sports participation programs. A special thanks to coordinators Fred Sanders of the DeSoto Eagles youth football organization and Roderick Turner of the City of DeSoto PARD for hosting over 60 youths in this competition. The finalists of this local competition will participate in the sectional on October 18 in Dallas. The national finals will be held in January 2009 during divisional playoff game.
