Rowlett Drill Team Welcomes Home Troops

1 Rating / 1 Comment

At 6:00 AM on Sunday morning, Sept. 21st, a sleepy, but dedicated group of young ladies from The Silver Rhythm Dancers, the varsity drill team from Rowlett High School, travelled to DFW Airport to welcome home a plane full of Iraqi War troops. The soldiers represented all branches of the military and had served in different countries. They will be home for a two week visit before returning to their posts. The girls were waiting for the troops to arrive with "welcome home" posters, cold water bottles, cheers, and smiles. "We just wanted to let these people know that we appreciate what they do" said Grechen Short, the drill team director.  A veteran, who was also on hand for the "welcome home", commented that he didn't know of many teenagers who would get up that early on a weekend for such a good cause. The girls were equally touched by the obvious sacrifices made by these men and women and their families.
