Parish Episcopal off to explosive 4-0 start
Parish Episcopal, which hasn’t trailed in any of its four victories, unveiled a big-play passing offense to overwhelm Austin Hyde Park, 36-14, at the Panthers’ Wheat Field.
Panthers senior quarterback Brant Costilla of Richardson had 339 yards passing with four touchdowns. The typically run-oriented Panthers didn’t grind their way to their fourth win without a loss but had four scoring plays of at least 44 yards.
Parish (4-0) is ranked No. 3 in The Dallas Morning News’ Large School Private School poll and plays at Tyler Grace Community (3-1) this week. Parish hasn’t trailed at any point in wins over ESD, Kemp, Hillcrest and Hyde Park.
To get Parish off to a 7-0 lead against Hyde Park, Panthers senior running back Trey Morse got the Panthers rolling with a 44-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Parish had a 33-0 halftime lead and led 36-0 before Hyde Park scored. Parish senior running back Andre Brackens took a Costilla pass all the way for a 71-yard scoring pass. Senior Ryan Simons had a 4-yard scoring pass and Morse added a 77-yard touchdown catch and late in the second quarter.
Parish senior kicker Michael DeLong, who also has been named this month a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, kicked a career best 47-yard field goal in the first half as well.
The Panthers, led by linemen Wes Salley and BJ January and linebackers Simons and Rob Hankins, totaled nine quarterback sacks against Hyde Park and allowed only nine yards rushing on 29 carries.
