Ten Things You Didn't Know About Frisco

1 Rating / 1 Comment
Six months ago when I first arrived in Frisco, I did not know much about the area. Since then, I’ve discovered a plethora of information from folks that I’ve met like former Mayor Bob Warren, Chief Mack at the Frisco Fire Department, and Gracie Hosp at Frisco Square to name a few. Did you know Panther Creek Parkway got its name because a pastor shot a panther there many years ago? Who knew that panthers ever roamed Frisco? Did you know Frisco is home to the longest continuous-themed bronze sculpture collection in the U.S.? Yes, you have probably driven by it lots of times whenever you were shopping at The Centre at Preston Ridge. Did you know the city bought and used for years a prefab jail cell formerly owned by Willie Nelson? I wonder, did it have air conditioning? Did you know rumor has it that there is buried treasure from a botched bank robbery that has never been found on Preston Road? I’m sure every household could a few more dollars here and there, but please promise me now that you will not be arrested for digging up parts of Preston Road. Did you know the largest private collection of Texas sculpture on public display without a fee is owned by Craig Hall and housed at HallOffice Park? We know it as the TexasSculptureGarden. Shop-a-holics brace yourself for this next true fact. Did you know there is more than five million square feet of retail space in Frisco? It is the reason why bargain hunters never stop hunting in Frisco! If you have never stayed at the Westin Stonebriar Resort, boy have you been missing out.Did you know the Westin Stonebriar Resort was named Westin’s North America Hotel of the Year among the brand’s 155 properties in the region, the first time a Westin property has earned the coveted award in back-to-back years. Did you know Frisco has an outdoor sculpture that literally disappears before your eyes for just a split second? It is the Frisco Flyer sculpture (the winged foot) on Technology Drive north of PizzaHutPark. Drive or walk by real, real slow and you will see what I mean. It is my favorite and thrills me every time I see it. Did you know there are three sports teams in Frisco? Count ‘em:Frisco RoughRiders, FC Dallas, and Frisco Thunder. Last but not least, Bob Warren got such a chuckle from this when I asked if it was true. Did you know former Mayor Bob Warren was baptized in what is now a salad bar at The Abbey Grill?
