Carolyn Campbell does a little bit of everything for the city of DeSoto. Either now or in the past, she has been in charge of special events for the civic center, aquatics, Corner Theatre and athletics.

Last week, she was out measuring parking spaces for the city, a place she has called home for 23 years.

So it’s a wonder she has time to be such a prolific contributor for neighborsgo.com. Her dedication to neighborsgo.com and its print edition is a big reason why she is the neighborsgo Choice Award winner for Best Contributor.

She got started with neighborsgo after former Best Southwest editor Sterling Robertson urged her to write for it. Campbell, who had never really written anything before, was intimidated but intrigued.

Eventually, she got up the courage to write … and take photos … and submit videos. There’s no single subject she won’t tackle, and though she says her main goal is go get DeSoto news out there, she also files reports from the other Best Southwest cities — Cedar Hill, Duncanville and Lancaster.

“It’s helped me learn to write, and I’ve encouraged others to do the same,” Campbell said.

Her Saturday morning ritual begins the same way every week: Wake up, drive five minutes to DeSotoTownCenter and pick up a copy of neighborsgo.

When construction temporarily removed the neighborsgo box there, that didn’t last long once Campbell found out about it.

When not at the office, Campbell devotes hours to her church, the Inspiring Body of Christ. She also spends plenty of time with her family — son Johnny, daughter Ryann and dog Scrappy.

“He’s such a ham,” Campbell said.
