GI Joe Convention in Frisco
HUNDREDS OF PARACHUTING ACTION FIGURES KICK OFF 15th ANNUAL G.I. JOE CONVENTION IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH-AREAConvention features G.I. JOE “Basic Training” and Thousands of Rare and Vintage Figures
Frisco, Texas -- June 11, 2008 – More than 300 G.I. JOE figures -- all with working parachutes -- will “jump” from the top of a 10-story Frisco hotel atrium and soar to the ground as an army of G.I. JOE enthusiasts cheer at the incredible spectacle.
The amazing aerial stunt at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 27, 2008 marks the official opening of the 15th annual Hasbro International G.I. JOE Collector’s Convention hosted by the G.I. JOE Collector’s Club and Hasbro, Inc. For three days, thousands of G.I. JOE fans will meet at the Frisco Embassy Suites Hotel to participate in events and activities that celebrate the brand’s nearly 45-year history — with a special emphasis on the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA storyline, which is the premise of next summer’s live action G.I. JOE movie from Paramount Pictures and Hasbro.
“There never has been a more exciting time for G.I. JOE enthusiasts,” said Michael Ritchie, Director of Marketing, G.I. JOE. “Convention attendees are looking forward to once again celebrating G.I. JOE’s rich history while eagerly anticipating next summer’s major motion picture.”
New to this year’s convention is the G.I. JOE “Basic Training,” which includes The Rock Climbing Wall Challenge that tests kids’ skills on a 24 ft. climbing wall. Those who successfully climb the wall will receive their own G.I. JOE logo’d dog tag. Kids will also have a chance to participate in a number of others activities that will help them earn their last “badge” of Basic Training.
“This year’s theme is ‘Countdown to Glory’ as the Frisco convention sets the clock ticking for the movie’s release next year,” said Brian Savage, Director of the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Club. “We invite families, kids, and kids-at-heart from the Dallas area to come participate at the convention on Saturday and Sunday alongside the die-hard GI JOE fans who will travel from all across the nation to attend.”
The convention is being held at the Embassy Suites Dallas-Frisco/Hotel & Convention Center located at 7600 John Q. Hammons Drive in Frisco, Texas. General admission tickets are available for $10 for adults and $5 for children (free for those 4 and under and Scouts attending in uniform), which provides access to the showroom on Saturday, June 28th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, June 29th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional details and pre-registration information can be found at www.gijoeclub.com.
Hasbro inaugurated the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Convention in 1994 to bring collectors, fans and the G.I. JOE team together to share in the history of the brand. The annual event attracts thousands of people for G.I. JOE-related presentations and activities, along with buying, selling and trading rare and vintage G.I. JOE action figures.
