North Texas Turns Passionately Pink

On Saturday, June 7, 2008 more than 11,000 North Texans participated in the 18th Annual Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Texas Race for the Cure at the global headquarters of EDS and the Campus at Legacy.  Although not all the donations have been counted and are still being accepted, this year’s Race is expected to raise more than $900,000 to help fund breast cancer education, screening and treatment for the medically underserved in Collin, Denton and Grayson counties.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better event,” said Colleen Campbell, Susan G. Komen North Texas Race for the Cure chairwoman. “It was a beautiful day with thousands of local residents celebrating the progress we have made, honoring breast cancer survivors and remembering those we have lost. The funds raised from the North Texas Race for the Cure will truly make a difference right here in our community, providing breast cancer services to those who may not otherwise get diagnosis or treatment.”

The Race included a 5K run/fitness walk, one mile family fun run/walk and Kids Dash sponsored by Accenture. The 5K race results can be reviewed at http://www.runontexas.com/Results/Spring2008/KomenNorthTexas2008/KomenNorthTexaMenu.htm.The event was hosted and emceed by local honorary chairs, the women of CBS 11 and TXA 21. It concluded with a celebration honoring the nearly 700 breast cancer survivors who participated in the event.
