Flip-Flop to Guatemala

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

Thomas O. Hicks Elementary 4th and 5th grade student council members sponsored a school wide flip-flop drive. The flip-flops will be taken to a Guatemalan orphanage by the school nurse Lisa Brashier during the summer. Close to 400 pairs of flip-flops were collected.

In order to raise awareness for this flip-flop drive, student council members created flip-flop shaped signs, and promoted the event on the morning announcements. Teachers also took this opportunity to teach the children of Hicks about Guatemala and its location on the globe as well as the economics of this country.

Nurse Lisa Braisher plans to share her experience as well as pictures of the students’ generosity when school resumes in the fall. “It was truly an amazing outpouring of generosity from our community in Frisco, at Thomas O. Hicks Elementary!  Way to go, Timberwolves!!!” stated Brashier.
