Cosmetology students at R.L. Turner High School have gained some great "on the job" experience as a result of a program developed by their instructor, Janet High. Opening the classroom to offer services to other students, faculty, or community members has allowed students to broaden their skills by working on real people as opposed to the heads on which they practice.
In addition to a fresh, renewed look The Caregiver Pampering Day held recently gave the women who participated several hours of respite away from their caregiving responsibilities. The voices of the senior cosmetology students, busily planning for their upcoming graduation boosted the energy and added an element of fun to the event.
A collaborative effort between Ellen Toliver, Client Services Director at Senior Adult Services and Ms. High, for only $10, caregivers enjoyed manicures, facials, shampoos and styling. The Civic League stepped forward to underwrite the expense to ensure that everyone was able to participate. From the delighted comments made by the women who enjoyed the results of the students' efforts, many will manage to find time in their busy schedules to return for continued pampering and self care.
