First Ever BlalackMiddle School Jr. Baccalaureate Ceremony
By: Arianna Richards & Grant Peltier – BlalackMiddle School Paw Print Staff WritersAs the seniors must leave to go to college, 8th graders leave to go to high school. They have worked hard for the past three years, so the community is now commemorating their achievements. For the first time in BlalackMiddle School history a Jr. Baccalaureate ceremony for the graduating 8th graders will be hosted by a parent committee. This event will be held on Saturday, May 31 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the tree house (youth area above the gym) at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship.
“This will be a great chance for me to share my life with future students and to let them know they have someone they can look to for support when they get to Creekview,” Michael Cone, Creekview history teacher, said.
At the ceremony students will be performing songs, and reciting poems and bible verses. The theme is lighting the path of faith, and the performances will be based on that theme. Tom and Margie Siems have put the ceremony together to celebrate the passage from 8th grade to high school. Their son, Alec plans to speak, sing for choir, and play with his band for the ceremony.
“I recommend this to all 8th graders and their parents because it’s going to be fun, unique, and one of the last events to go to as a Blalack 8th grader,” Alec 8th grade, said.
Michael Cone, history teacher at Creekview high school will be the keynote speaker at the Jr. Baccalaureate and is excited about the opportunity to talk to 8th graders.
“I believe this will be an exciting opportunity to share what God has done in my life and how that might apply to the students in the audience,” Cone, said.
