FARMERS BRANCH ~ After much work, good soaking rains and nurturing sunshine it is time for Farmers Branch to come together as a community for the Grand Opening of the National EarthKind™ Trial Rose Garden and Display Garden at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the garden at Gussie Field Watterworth Park, on Valley View Lane near Farmers Branch City Hall.
The new garden was planted during the winter months and, with 150 varieties and more than 700 rose plants, will be one of the largest trial gardens in the country. With the ribbon-cutting that morning, the gardens will be officially opened for enjoyment by all. City staff and Consulting Rosarians from the Dallas Rose Society will be there to share information about the garden or answer questions about rose care at home.
The Grand Opening will be held in conjunction with the annual Fishin’Fun event that begins at 9 a.m., also at Gussie Field Watterworth Park. All young fisherfolk registered for Fishin’Fun will receive a token for a free rose plant.
City Landscape Manager Pam Smith said the joint event is “an excellent opportunity to come out as a family, catch a fish, enjoy the morning, and take home a rose plant to nurture and enjoy for years to come.“
