Girl Scouts Camping in the Pink

1 Rating / 0 Comments

Girl Scout Troop 24 from Carrollton went camping at Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas May 9-11. The weather was perfect! They pitched 7 PINK tents outside the Tejas Timbers lodge. The girls enjoyed campfires, s'mores, hiking, swimming in the pool and other outdoor activities.

Troop 24 had two visitors from school Saturday, Ms. Rehm and Ms. Greenway, third grade teachers from Dale. B. Davis Elementary.  They came to camp to have some fun in the sun with the girls.  Ms. Rehm remembered when she was a Girl Scout.  Ms. Greenway was a campfire girl.  That evening the girls had another kind of visitor.  A raccoon walked around the campfire looking for left over s'mores.  The masked critter was not shy at all; the girls were watching from a nearby picnic table.

Our troop 24 campers are in 3rd and 4th grade.  They attend Dale B. Davis, Furneax, and Indian Creek elementary schools:  Cecilia Zalvidar, Jada Lee, London Bookman, Maddie Ebanks, Michel Owens, Raven Scott and Sarah Reicherts.  Three 5th grade Girl Scouts camped with us:  Ellie Ebanks, Samantha Lee and Shannon Reicherts.  The older girls taught troop 24 Girl Scout songs, helped with the camp fire, and helped with morning and evening flag ceremonies.

The pink tents were donated last November by the Susan G. Komen 3 Day to the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.  In return, our troop 24 Girl Scouts plan to have a "pink" service project this fall for the 2008 Susan G. Komen 3 day walk.

This camping trip was paid for with cookie money!  Thank you to all of our cookie customers.
