(Lewisville, Tx.)
On Tuesday, May 6, 2008 Castle Hills Elementary School students and faculty celebrated Cinco de Mayo through the sights and sounds of the Ollimpaxqui Ballet Folklorico Company, a professional ballet folklorico dance group.
Ollimpaxqui (which means "Joyful Movement") Ballet Folklorico Company came to the United States from Mexico City in 1985. They participate in over 250 performances a year and performed for President George W. Bush at the first Cinco de Mayo celebration held at the White House.
They performed dances from several different states in Mexico including Jalisco, Veracruz, Michoacan, and Chihuahua. The students were able to interact with the dancers and participate in learning some of these fascinating dances. The Castle Hills elementary students and faculty were thoroughly entertained.
This experience not only supported the school's Spanish curriculum but provided a cultural insight to our country's neighbor to the South, Mexico
