Teen Volunteer Opportunities at the DeSoto Public Library
Are you a student between the ages of 15-18 or entering the 9-12 grades looking for a great place to volunteer this summer? Summer break is almost here and the DeSoto Public Library is looking for responsible teens to join its teen volunteer program.
Volunteering at the library will provide you with an opportunity to earn community service credits for the National Honor Society, Scouting Merit Badges, college admissions, scholarships, and other similar programs. It’s a great way to meet new friends and help your community while developing practical job skills, customer and public service experience, and introduce you to possible careers in libraries.
You can pick-up a teen volunteer application at the DeSoto Public Library’s check out desk. All applications must be signed by a parent and returned to the library by May 23, 2008. You may also visit the library’s website www.ci.desoto.tx.us to apply online. All selected volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation.
The eight week program runs from June 16 – August 08, 2008. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least two hours service per week and are needed for a minimum of 10 hours for the summer. We can make these hours flexible to accommodate other activities.
Volunteer duties include assisting the Children’s Department with signing up patrons for the Summer Reading Club Program, summer parties, and weekly programs. Assisting the check out desk with checking in returned materials and assisting with shelf maintenance by making sure materials are in proper order on shelves and shelving library materials.
