Title: Whales
Author: Wexo, John Bonnet
Student’s name: Isaiah Washington, Smith 5th
Summary
The non-fiction book that I read is all about whales. It gives information about the whale’s blubber (fat), the 5 bony “fingers” in a whale’s flipper, or even the whales “melon” in its head! It also tells about the creature’s “blowhole”, how it breathes. The whale goes up to the surface, spits water out, and sucks air in. This all happens through this tiny hole at the top of its body. Pretty neat huh? It also tells how whales find their way around. It says that they “hear with their ears” by making a click sound towards the object to see what it is. This is called “echolocation.” Also, the book mentions the whale’s tail that is called a “fluke” and it helps them to steer. It even informs the reader that a BLUE WHALE can weigh 418,000 pounds, 110 ft, eats plankton, and is found in deep waters.
Why I chose this book
I chose this magnificent book because I wanted to gain knowledge of whales!
What I learned
This book has increased my knowledge of WHALES, becauseit informed me in the ways whales survive and how they use echolocation to move around and locate things. Most of the whales eat “plankton” at the surface of the ocean. Learning about the Blue Whales was especially interesting. I learned so many things about it. Before I read this book, I knew that there many types of whales, but now I know all of the names and what they look like. This IS a very neat book to read!
