Chickens Attend Reinhardt's Pep Rally
Reinhardt Elementary has been “rockin” lately in an effort to celebrate their preparation for the TAKS test. Students in grades K – 6 gathered in the gymnasium Monday afternoon for a pep rally in hopes of supporting and encouraging those scheduled to take the math, reading or science portion of the test. The crowd roared with excitement as eleven teachers pranced about with an original version of the “chicken” dance. Loya Merritt was dressed in a full chicken costume while Dayle Lynch, Bill Morton, Misty Ford, Renee Cecil, Rachel Cassady, Beverly Mummey, Sheron Tolle, Nancy Corliss, MariCarman and Kelly Moore wore masks to support their role. Students were encouraged to join in as they “made their moves” and “strutted” along. Just as the crowd began to settle down, a new group of teachers prepared for the “Hats Off to the TAKS Challenge”. Allison Blair, Peggy Ricketts, Carol Anderson, Tracie Archer, Stacy Sauerwein, Cathy Zolkowski, Jennifer Doss, Sherrie Lofland, Tina Hughes, and Pam McNellis covered their clothes with paint shirts, placed a shower cap over their hair, covered their eyes with goggles, and balanced a birthday hat on their head. Students were chosen from each grade to try to knock the hat off the teacher’s head with the force of water from a small water-toy. Everyone laughed and cheered as the teachers patiently enjoyed the excitement. Ms. Oswald, the assistant principal, showed her appreciation to the participating teachers by stating “….in all your Reinhardt glory you come together, with the leadership of Mrs. Merritt and create the best rally yet!!” “Not only are you great teachers, you are great sports, and have some real ‘moves’!” exclaimed Ms. Oswald. The students had a great time and enjoyed the entertainment of their teachers.
