Career Day 2008
“Money doesn’t make the world go ’round. Women make the world go ’round.” This personal conviction, shared by Amy Little, Assistant Chief of Protocol for Ceremonials & Outreach for the U.S. Department of State, Washington, D.C. and Ursuline graduate Class of 1991, was just one of many insights shared by the 50 alumnae and other women professionals who took part in Career Day at Ursuline on April 16.
Ms. Little, the event’s keynote speaker, shared details of her job responsibilities, women’s empowerment, and women mentors, and strongly believes that the way to a better, more hopeful world is through powerful women. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, First Lady Laura Bush, and her mom are among her personal mentors.
Held every other year and hosted by the Ursuline Alumnae Association, the Career Day event gives current students an opportunity to learn from active alumnae and other accomplished women. This year’s program, co-chaired by Jean Thomas Buys, Class of 1982, and Genevieve Rubensteen Dittmar, Class of 1980, featured women representing nearly three dozen fields ranging from accounting to songwriting.
Despite the array of diverse careers, common themes prevailed. Presenters encouraged the Ursuline student body to take advantage of opportunities put in front of them, to realize the importance of personal and professional relationships, and to be prepared to make choices as they juggle career and family.
