Two events will be held in Desoto, Texas, in observance of the 57th National Day of prayer.  The first observance, to be held in the City Council Chamber of  DeSoto's Town Center, will be hosted by the DeSoto Ministers Association.  The focus of the prayer time will be prayers led by various ministers in the community praying for:  Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family. The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. and conclude by 8:00 a.m.  Coffee and pastries will be served.

The second observance will be held at Hampton Road Baptist Church on Thursday, May 1 at 7:00 pm.  Carrie McDonnall will be the featured speaker for the event.  The event is a gift to the Desoto community from Hampton Road Baptist Church, community Missionary Baptist church and Crossroads Covenant Church, all of Desoto.

Carrie is the author of Facing Terror, which describes her and husband David's life and ministry together.  It also chronicles her tragic loss.

Carrie served as a missionary to Iraq with David, aiding the Iraqi people in relief and development work.  Their purpose was to bring hope and light to a people who have known much darkness and oppression.

On March 15, 2004, on the crowded streets of Mosul, terrorists attacked Carrie, David and their team.  Three of their team members, Larry and Jean Elliot and Karen Watson died on that day.  Miraculously, David survived long enough to see his wife to safety; however, he died the following day due to injuries sustained during the assault.

As the lone survivor of this horrific incident, Carrie's captivating story of the love, light and healing during such difficult experiences is a beautiful testimony to the compelling love of Christ.

Carrie continues to challenge people all over the world with her story and encourages them to look beyond themselves to see God's true purpose for their lives.

Pastors Oscar Epps, Joseph Rasheed and Jerry Raines encourage every church and every individual in the community to come out to hear her exciting and challenging testimony and to spend some time in prayer for our nation.   A love offering will be received and copies of her books will be available.  Everyone is welcome and invited to attend.

Hampton Road Baptist Church is located at 400 N. Hampton, between Belt Line and Pleasant Run Road.  Ph. 972-223-5070.
