Ashley Takes a Reading Road Trip
Ashley Elementary takes a Reading on the RoadBy Michelle Mayo As Ashley Elementary students prepared for Spring Break many students packed something often forgotten during vacation, BOOKS! On April 11th through April 18th, Ashley will host the scholastic book fair where they will, “Take a reading road trip.” Spring Break offers a great opportunity for students to truly take a reading road trip. During Spring Break this year, Ashley students were asked take a picture of themselves reading; wherever they went, or didn’t go. If families did not have a trip planned, students found an unusual place to read around their house or around town. Pictures began rolling in the Monday students returned from vacation. Mrs. Mayo, the librarian claimed, “I never imagined how exciting it would be to see all the interesting places the students found to read!” Parents returning pictures with their students said that the kids had fun picking out places and deciding how to pose for the picture. Students were captured reading in boats, hanging in trees, at the Alamo, and various other places. Ashley students weren’t the only ones reading. Teachers and staff participated, too. Teachers read on mountains, in trees, in the snow, and even in the laundry room. An unusual, exciting, or interesting reading picture will be selected from each grade level. Each winner will receive a $5 gift certificate to the upcoming book fair. Pictures will be on display in the halls during the Book Fair week!
