You Are Appreciated!

“You are appreciated!”  That was the sentiment included with each soldier’s care package packed by CarrolltonChristianAcademy students during the latest Blessed by the Saints project.  Each student in the school was asked to bring a designated snack item to include in the large care packages, averaging between 8 and 10 pounds each.

The 5th and 11th grade students sorted items into common categories.  Shipping boxes were then assembled, filled, sealed, and addressed to go to the various locations for service men and women.  Ingredients in the care packages included candy and snacks along with camouflage Easter eggs filled with goodies. Local dentists provided toothpaste and toothbrushes to accompany the sweet treats. Bundles of hand-written notes from students expressing sincere appreciation for the troops’ dedication and service topped off the gift boxes. The packages were shipped to 25 service men and women, on two different occasions, with the total amount for the 50 boxes weighing in at well over 400 pounds. They will be able to share special treats and notes with many of their fellow soldiers. A grant from the Meadows Foundation provided the funding for the postage for all 50 packages.  A portion of the appreciation packages were directed to some of CCA’s own family members serving at bases within the United States as well as in Iraq and other bases around the world.

Another 65 + “Thanks for Serving” gift bags were filled and distributed to our troops through the USO, at the DFWAirport.  Mrs. Diane Ratley, a CCA parent whose family member now serves in the military forces, was the designated volunteer to coordinate the distribution of gift bags to the USO.  Those “Thanks for Serving” bags were packed with snacks and prayers from CarrolltonChristianAcademy families.

The American troops will surely enjoy the snacks.  They will benefit much more by knowing there are students and families who remember their sacrifice and who desire to support and encourage them.  The students of CCA gain from this project as well. This was an opportunity to focus attention on the needs of others and serve those who put their lives on the line daily to protect the freedom of every American.
