The Graduate Institute of Applied Lingusitics celebrates ten years
The Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics celebrates ten years.
The Graduate Institute of Applied Lingusitics (GIAL) will be celebrating its ten year anniversary this March 29-31. The mission of the school is to provide training and research opportunities leading to graduate degrees in applied lingusitics and development of languages.
Many wonderful things have happened since GIAL’s founding on March 31, 1998. GIAL has attained regional accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award master’s degrees. Over 800 students have studied at GIAL and are now serving with eighteen different mission agencies in fifty eight different countries. More than 100 students have earned Master of Arts degrees through GIAL, with many more “in the pipeline.”
In celebrating its tenth anniversary, GIAL is holding a three day reunion featuring a variety of activities. It begins on Saturday with a volleyball tournament and catered barbecue at LakesidePark, Duncanville. Several GIAL students and alumni will be featured at Sing and Share on Sunday evening. Sing and Share is a weekly meeting for those associated with the International Linguistic Center (ILC) on which GIAL resides.Monday, the anniversary of GIAL’s founding, includes a special chapel message by Dr. David Ross, President of GIAL, who will be sharing God’s Miracle Tent Pegs, an academic forum by alumna, Lynley Hatcher, and an on-campus parade. The celebration will culminate with a banquet on Monday evening at HillcrestBaptistChurch. During that time, Karl Franklin will share the fulfillment of his dream for creating GIAL and Dr. Ross will share his dreams for the next decade.
