The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Plano held a Kick Off Celebration for Survivors and Team Participants at an Ice Cream Social at Henry's Ice Cream Shop in Plano.
Survivors, Team Participants and the Event Committee gathered to kick off fundraising efforts for the upcoming Relay For Life Plano scheduled for April 25 at the Alcatel-Lucent baseball fields at 3400 West Plano Parkway. The event runs from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. because cancer never sleeps. Teams of eight to 15 people gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation.
"This year's theme is Celebrate! Remember! Fight Back!," said Lura Scott, Event Chairperson. "If you know someone who is celebrating being cancer free, or you want to honor and remember someone who has passed away because of cancer -- or if you or someone you know is fighting back against cancer, join us for this great family-oriented event," she adds. "The funds raised make it possible for the American Cancer Society to continue to invest in research, education, advocacy and services to patients of all kinds of cancer." Radio Disney will be providing games, prizes and entertainment for families and Linda Armstrong Kelly, motivational speaker and mother of cycling legend and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong is the Honorary Chairperson for this year's event.
