The Foundation For Allen Schools and the Allen/Lovejoy Council of PTAs will host the seventh annual “BEE for Education” on Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in the Ereckson Middle School Cafeteria (450 Tatum Dr., Allen). BEE for Education is a community spelling bee supporting student and teacher scholarships in Allen ISD.
“This is one evening that our fabulous teachers get to show off their spelling skills,” said Regina Taylor, Foundation Director. “BEE for Education has been a great collaboration between the Foundation For Allen Schools and our school PTAs. We are working together to support our students and our teachers with scholarship funds.”
The event has raised over $65,000 for student and teacher scholarships over the past four years.
A special twist has been added to this year’s BEE. The 2008 BEE has been dubbed the “Classic TV Edition” and every school team has selected a classic television show as their theme. The Adams Family, Partridge Family, Mama’s Family, Beverly Hillbillies, Peanuts Gang, Gilligan’s Island, Green Acres, Happy Days crew and more will be present to show off their spelling skills.
“We have always had ‘Mulligans’ for our spelling teams so contestants can pass on a difficult word to spell,” explained Taylor. “This year we are adding “Phone-a-Friend in the Audience” so that team members can actually call someone in the audience for help with one word.”
Individual tickets are available for $10 and include a boxed dinner. Table sponsorships are available for $100 and include dinner and reserved priority seating for eight. Tickets can be purchased by calling the BEE Information Hotline at 972-727-0362.
Three-person adult teams sponsored by individuals and local businesses will compete for the BEE Trophy. The 23 teams in this year’s competition will also vie for the Best Dressed Team, Best Decorated Table and Best Cheering Section awards. The team from the Lowery Freshman Center was pronounced champion at last year’s bee.
